Boarding advice
How much food to pack for dog boarding
Pack your dog’s normal food for every meal they will eat at the kennel, then add a buffer.
Rule
(nights × meals per day) − meals the kennel will not feed + 1 or 2 backup meals
Example
5 nights × 2 meals per day = 10 meals. Add 2 backups = 12 labelled meal bags. Confirm drop-off and pick-up meal rules with your kennel.
Why the buffer matters
Pick-up can be delayed. Staff need clear portions, not a bulk bag to scoop. Extra meals avoid a sudden diet change if plans shift.
How to pack
- Use the same food your dog eats at home.
- Pre-portion each meal into its own bag or container.
- Label every bag with dog name, date, meal time, portion, and allergy notes.
- Put medication and care notes on one instruction sheet.
- Ask the kennel whether toys, beds, and treats are allowed before packing them.
